I will be going to a workshop on Yin Yoga soon, doing a lot of reviewing of anatomy and physiology, as well as reading on the philosophy of Yin Yoga. A bit apprehensive because as a student in this workshop I will be critiqued/observed. In general most people don’t want their weaknesses pointed out. This a yoga workshop and I must let that go! Stay committed and be curious about connecting with my body in this yin experience. Genuinely I am curious about connecting on a deeper level with my body, however, as a self-critical person (to an extent), there is always that moment when I start to think am I OK? Can I do better and what if I cannot?
So on this note I will continue to stay focused, read, practice and look forward to the workshop. I will be working with professional trained teachers so I can become more informed and flourish within my own practice and also be a better teacher for my students…
I am especially excited to be working with Bernie Clark, a thoughtful and dictated teacher, who has written great books on the practice of Yin Yoga.
This blog also brings to mind the benefits of checking in and having a personal session to receive the benefits of a 1:1 time to accomplish a specific movement or know how that movement can be modified to your specific body type. When is the last time you checked in with your teacher?
Whatever your goals are – to increase flexibility, develop strength, enhance your daily practice, mitigate injury, acquire mindfulness skills to positively cope with a health condition, or simply improve upon the daily movements in your yoga class; allow yourself time to set up a private session to explore and receive the awareness and knowledge you can use to enhance your life.
