May NewLetter

Welcoming in this month, with open-mindedness, hope and a willingness to embrace the positive changes and growth that May can facilitate.
Prepare for your outdoor summer activities as we focus our yoga classes on stability and increase our strength and mobility. We will cover feet, knees, hips and how their function ties into your core.
In Gentle Hatha this month (Thursdays mornings) we will incorporate working with the Tight Ilio-Tibial Bands (IT Bands), a thick, fibrous band of tissue that runs along the outside of the leg from the hip to the knee. It plays a crucial role in hip and knee stabilization, particularly during activities like running and walking.  There are effective ways to deal with tight IT bands and our Gentle Hatha class gives us the opportunity to work (stretch) together.
We will continue to explore and improve standing balance poses to build confidence in Tree Pose (Vrksasana), Warrior III (Virabhadrasana III), and more.

Our practice of yoga always offers an extended opportunity to pause, offering  space to reset, breathe, and reconnect.  “Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which
you can retreat at any time.” — Hermann Hesse

Spring is nature’s great turning point, a time of renewal, growth, and expansion. It reminds us that transformation is not only possible but inevitable. Yoga invites us to step into this season with awareness. Just as tender flowering plants push through the thawing soil, we also reach towards the light and create space for renewal.

Yoga for Gardeners
Spring has sprung already, and I am excited to bring this workshop into the studio.  Some days, we may only be in the garden for 1-2 hours, but on others we can be working for 5-6 hours a day.  This workshop we will bring a loving release to the low back, hips, side torso, legs, ankles and feet. We will also stretch through the hands, wrists, and arms while practicing mindful breathing. This workshop will develop a home practice for a demanding day laboring in the garden.
Wednesday April 9th 3-4:30.

I fell in love with Yin 9 years ago and I have been teaching it ever since.
The focus of my Yin Yoga classes are on:
Releasing physical, emotional and mental tension
Promoting attention and body awareness
Exploring the possibilities and limits of the body
Observing without judgment or action
Stimulating the free flow of energy in body and mind
If this resonates with you and you'd like to discover more:
My Yin classes are on Wednesdays at 9AM and now on every second Thursday at 11am.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

In our mountains the snow is quickly melting, as the rivers are running, and the forest is turning greener than ever. As spring emerges, we get ready for the increased movement and extroversion to access spring’s clarity and vitality.
In our yoga practice we note our brain's ability to multitask between cognitive and motor networks which improve as we practice. This in turn helps our balance and control of our ability to navigate physically in challenging situations; a faculty we otherwise tend to lose with age.
Continue your work on your mat this month, a very important time to do so in these changing times.  Each little step matters, each moment can make a big difference. Our community is strong!

Celebrate the coming of spring at the studio, enter your name in the drawings. Weekly winners will be announced on Fridays to receive their “bonus classes”.

Private Sessions will now include:   Pre and Post-Op Programs
The use of yoga as a complimentary health approach has increased over these past few years.
Preoperative exercise is effective in reducing the length of stay and number of complications after surgery. Incorporating yoga interventions that use breathing, stretching and relaxation interventions could help hasten the recovery process following surgery.  It is also noted that postoperative rehabilitation should be imitated as soon as possible after surgery to gain functional mobility.

The month of January has been a challenge for us all in one way or another. As we meet the world there are always choices to be made. I am delighted to see you attending to your practice here at the studio.  As we open our own doors to trust and find what truly resonates within making our hearts feel at peace.

Check in with Momoyoga this month for additional elements of Balancing and a Focus on Joint Mobility incorporated into the current class schedule.

I am starting a new class on Wednesday, February 5th.
Yin Restorative Yoga
Classes will be at 11am
This yoga practice combines elements of both Yin and Restorative Yoga. The focus is in passively stretching connective tissues with longer held poses (2-3 minutes) while sitting or lying. The practice will help increase flexibility, improve joint mobility, release tensions and trauma within. Taking our time signals the body and mind to relax, bringing us to a calming state. Props will be used here to encourage deep relaxation and stress release, as they support the body physically, and help to create comfort.
A beautiful combination for relaxing and receiving.
Props are provided

I am also offering a special class this month:
Breathe in. Pause. Breathe out. Pause

Free Class for Current Cancer Patients and Cancer Survivors
Starting on February 7th
 Fridays 11am-11:30

Creating moments of stillness and presence throughout the day can be woven into activities by engaging fully in the present moment.   Mindful transitions between tasks, like pausing to take a few conscious breaths before beginning something new, help cultivate a sense of calm and clarity. A simple class to introduce breathing, and experiment with short, accessible meditation techniques to find what resonates with you.      By intentionally practicing presence, we strengthen our ability to remain grounded and centered to bring balance into our lives.

Stepping into the New Year we embrace the yoga principle of aparigraha (non-attachment). Setting our intentions or mindset to be more open to the present.  I find this more nourishing as we can become more flexible with outcomes in our own lives.
Start this New Year with openness and connection with the Bodhi Tree Community.

Starting in January
New Class Series: Wednesdays 11am-12
January 8-29th
$50.00
BEGINNINGS
(the point in time at which something starts)
A unique and wonderful series to gain a deeper understanding to make a yoga practice for yourself. To acquire a constant source of renewed inspiration and growth and maintain a balanced approach to a healthy practice. I will be bringing in my 15 years of teaching experience into this class.
The series presents a unique opportunity that you will not want to miss.

The New Year Workshop
YOGA FOR MENOPAUSE
January 17th Friday 11-12:30
$40.000

Discover menopause as a transition not a disease.
Learn how hormones impact your physical, emotional and mental life.
Our modern healthcare advancements have increased life expectancy, resulting in women spending about one-third of their lives now in post-menopause!
Gain insights into this transformative life stage, as yoga offers a holistic approach to help manage menopause, encouraging us to view this time as a transformation, rather than a decline in health. We will have a better understanding of our health and our own bodies.
Take the time and opportunity for this class.

Bodhi tree Studio was able to give back to the community this year as the end of year donations were made to nonprofits.  Thank you for making that happen!

Without intention, your practice becomes another task to be completed, and it loses its ability to transform.

Living our yoga in this month of December.
Yoga and gratitude complement one another, both encouraging us to be present and embrace life as it is.  On our mats we can build and embrace gratitude by slowing down, tuning to our breath, and appreciating the ability to move and authentically connect with ourselves.  Our classes this month will extend into our daily life by shifting the focus from what we lack to the abundance already present.
Check in with the class schedule on Momoyoga for special class themes this month and our special Holiday giveaways!
I have moved through some storms recently in my life and thank goodness I have yoga.

I continue to strive to make Bodhi Tree Studio a refuge and a compassionate place to practice for all.  Invite a loved one to join you in a class this month for free.
