If we’ve lost someone we love or are navigating any difficult challenges, those jewel, bright LED lights seem to illuminate all the imperfections in our lives. And the fact that for those of us here in the northern hemisphere it’s the darkest time of the year and one of the busiest times, with holiday parties, the pressure of shopping, eating the abundance of sugary treats and extra alcohol that our bodies might not thank us for. It is also a fact that it’s one of the most financially stressful times, with overspending…...
Despite the fact that nature is whispering slow down, the holiday’s voice says speed up! The holidays seem be a blend of magical moments, crazy unrealistic expectations, excess stress, and bittersweet nostalgia. After we try different methods of coping, including grumping around for the entire month of December, or getting those physical symptoms of a cold or flu until the holidays are over, but let’s explore this a bit further.
It is a dark and hectic month, but let’s think practicing self-care and find that these acts can feel like little warm lights. If we just keep stringing them together, a yoga class (for sure), going for walks with friends, planning a day trip and place “work” on hold, and taking a soaking hot bath…I know we can survive the season with our sanity somewhat intact!
And who knows, we might even catch some of that holiday cheer.
