It is now officially autumn, the days become shorter, and the rhythm shifts, the light and heat of summer subside. We move towards something more mellow and soft, which encourages us to look within and reflect. Simply by tuning into the natural shifts and changes of the seasons like this, we can adapt our yoga practice to keep us in balance. We focus strongly on the breath, which is important at this time of year as we breathe in the cool and crisp autumn air, it feels so different! Traditionally in India pranayama is taught in the two seasons of spring and autumn, how perfect.
Emphasis this month at the studio will be on balance with pranayama, movement, and regeneration. We will also have an emphasis on savasana, with comfort, which is a perfect complement to our practice as well as this seasonal change.
When we balance our lifestyle and practice we acquire the capacity to slow down, take on a little less and savor those autumn colors!
